Kalinago Chief raps Chad George of GIS and DBS’ Manager Cecil Joseph

Kalinago Chief Anette Sanford has written to Director of the Government Information Chad George and Manager of DBS Radio Cecil Joseph expressing “total disappointment” and that of the Kalinago Peoples about the behaviour of GIS at the inauguration of the Kalinago Chief on September 11, 2024.

The letter states, “It has been the practice and precedent that important inaugurations of Town and Village Councils are normally carried live by GIS and DBS and it was expected by the Kalinago Council and the Peoples of the Kalinago Territory that past practice in this respect would hold for this inauguration. Most concerning was the lack of communication from you, or any GIS official expressing regret, and a reason for not being able to do so.

On the part of DBS, who had announced that they would be carrying the event “live” they were “absent” and did not express regret and a reason for its absence.

She says the move “defies reasons and modicum of respect to the First People of Dominica” especially given the fact that Her Excellency the President officiated along with government Ministers Cassani Laville, Greta Roberts, and Cozier Frederick the parliamentary representative for the area and minister for Kalinago affairs.

“Let me underscore that your absence was a display of distasteful conduct by GIS and DBS and I must hasten to add that the Kalinago People of Dominica view this act as another example of continuing discriminatory behaviour towards our community and particularly to women since this behaviour came at a time when the Kalinago people took great strides in accomplishing Gender Equality for Kalinago women. We find it incredulous that this could have happened at this very important, historical event in our Territory.”

“The Kalinago Council hereby seeks a public apology from the Management of GIS and DBS for what we consider to be an egregious and discriminatory act directed at the Kalinago Peoples. Never again should such indiscretion be meted out to Dominica’s Indigenous Peoples, or any community in Dominica.”

“We look forward to more responsible action by GIS and DBS the Nation’s station particularly when the President of the Commonwealth of Dominica officiates at an official event. The Kalinago Council looks forward to a response in writing to this complaint about the regrettable behaviour of GIS and DBS Rdio.”

  1. Much ado about nothing. Get to work, Annette and abandon this petty idiotic child’s game in which you thoroughly participated as a UWPwee Senator.

You folks are too busy focusing on all the wrong targets. Get to work. Be a difference, already!

  2. Putin.
That’s your opinion and I respect it.

But too many times we don’t condemn wrong and that’s why we are in all these predicaments in the first place.

These letters are in fact showing that she is doing her work.
