Former Director of Public Prosecution (DPP), Evalina Baptiste Director of Public died at the Dominica China Friendship Hospital (DCFH) in the early hours of January 11, 2025, according to reports from family members.
Miss Baptiste as she was affectionately known is the sister of retired Justice of Appeal His Lordship Davidson Baptiste and, it is reported, that she passed away at the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) of the DCFH) in the early hours of this morning after she complained of feeling unwell.
According to family sources, arrangements were being made to transport her overseas for further medical attention when she died.
Baptiste is also a former Chief Magistrate in Dominica and also served as Registrar of Dominica’s High Court for several years and Registrar of the Court of Appeal of the Eastern Caribbean Supreme Court in St. Lucia.

She was appointed Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) in Dominica, replacing Gene Pestaina who retired in July 2013 spending 8 years in the post, retiring in 2021. Ms. Baptiste was also an active Calypso Judge in Dominica.
