Thea LaFond created history today by becoming the first Dominican to win a medal at a global athletics competition.

LaFond won gold in the triple jump at the World Indoor Athletics Championships in Glasgow, Scotland.
The 29-year-old’s first-round jump of 15.01 meters was too good for her competitors.
Cuban Leyanis Pérez Hernández was second with a best jump of 14.90m and Spaniard Ana Peleteiro-Compaoré’s best effort of 14.75 secured her the bronze medal.
