River Street man on a charge of “attempted murder”

Neville Charles Jr of River Street in Roseau is now on remand at the State Prison pending a bail application hearing after he appeared in court on a charge of “attempted murder” on the life of Jerimiah Williams on May 3, 2024.

The matter is indictable hence Charles was not required to enter, however, the prosecution headed by Vivian Augustine objected to bail because “the victim is still a patient at the Dominica China Friendship Hospital (DCFH) with injuries sustained to his head.”

He also told the court that Charles had breached his bail conditions of July 1, 2019, after he appeared in court on a Grievous Bodily Harm (GBH) charge and was granted bail of $15,000.00 with one surety and as part of his bail conditions he was “not to re-offend while on bail which may result in his bail being revoked.”

However, the Magistrate after hearing the prosecution stated that as per Section 6 (1) of the Bail Act, he does not have sufficient information to admit or deny bail and set the matter for June 14, 2024. He also advised the prosecution to ensure that the surety is “summoned to come to court to show cause” since as part of the bail 2019, she was to ensure that Charles kept his bail conditions. The Magistrate also asked the prosecution to furnish the court with information relevant to the 2019 matter since it is nearing five years and he needed a full “status report on it.”
