Repeat offender Anthony “burns”Scotland jailed for 18 months

The court has expressed its “disgust” at Anthony “Burns” Scotland of Pointe Michel, a “jailbird” and repeat offender who continues to steal.

In February of 2025, Scotland, who was arrested and charged for theft, appeared before Chief Magistrate Candia Carette George and pleaded guilty to the offense. He begged the court for yet another chance and was fined $250.00.

However, less than a month later, he was back in trouble again, arrested and charged by the police in Pointe Michel for theft from Joy Bardouille, an elderly woman in the community who had been very good to him.

She had given him a job to clean her yard, and he later returned and went in her basement and a box of groceries on March 21, 2025, for a total of $859.00

Before sentencing him, Senior Magistrate Michael Laudat reminded him that “he was not a first-time offender and that theft carries a maximum sentence of 7 years in jail.”

“Tell me why I should not send you to jail for seven years,” the Magistrate asked Scotland.

“Sir, I don’t know what happened, but I am working, have a little leniency on me, I agree to pay her back she was a good lady to me, I am willing to apologize…I apologize for what I did,” he stated.

Joy Bardouille was in court and asked by the Magistrate what she wanted him to do. She replied, “Send him to jail he needs to learn his lesson he disappointed me.”

“You have broken the trust of the lady, You are a big grown man and a repeat offender. the sentence of the court is 18 months in jail,” the Magistrate stated.
