Sagicor South East FC has been crowned as the champions of the inaugural Patrick John Football Cup. The grand finale which took place on Sunday at the Stockfarm Sports Complex saw the defending Premier Division champions walk away with the championship trophy as well as the winners’ prize money after securing a come-from-behind victory over Central Cooperative Credit Union LTD Dublanc FC.
In front of a mammoth crowd, national player, Travist Joseph gave his club the one nil advantage in the 7th minute of play when he headed home from close range from a corner kick. However, that lead was short-lived as the scores became level after a Scottie Phillip powerful strike from about mid-pitch.
With the score level going into the second half, both clubs fought for the advantage. However, when it appeared that the game would be heading into extra time, Javed George pounced on a loose ball inside the 18 and calmly put the ball at the back of the net in the 88th minute of play to spark the celebrations and give his club the two goals to one victory.
Javed George was named the player of the game and received EC$300 compliments Promex Milk and the DFA. His club received a cash prize of EC$15 000. The runners-up received EC$10 000.
The football focus now shifts to the President’s Cup which is expected to commence over the weekend.
