President bemoans lack of involvement of former players

An urgent and desperate plea has been made for more individuals to lend a hand in developing the sport of cricket on the island.

President of the Dominica Cricket Association (DCA), Glen Joseph, made the call for more past players to contribute to the sport rather than sitting on the sidelines and criticize. According to Joseph, this lack of interest is hurting the sport.

“That is lacking in Dominica and they show no interest in really developing cricket in Dominica. That does not augur well for us. You hear some of them criticize. I love people to criticize but show me that you are doing something or show me that you are helping me to achieve something,” the DCA boss lamented.

Joseph and other cricket enthusiasts with a vested interest in the sport launched the Starz Cricket Academy in 2013 before taking charge of the local body.

“I didn’t just sit there and watch what was going on with cricket in Dominica. I went out there and I established an academy, voluntarily. So I did something,” he reasoned.

In related cricket news, three former players have been appointed as selectors by the DCA. The panel comprises Pellam Jno Baptiste, Martin Matthew, and Morvan John. Their first task will be to select a senior national team for the Windward Islands tournament whenever the green light is given by the authorities for sporting activities to resume.
