BRIDGETOWN, Barbados, May 9, CMC -The 2022 Nobel Prize winner in Chemistry, Professor Morten Meldal, will launch the ‘Bridges of Innovation” campaign, which is aimed at highlighting the depth and potential of the European Union-Caribbean partnership.
The Delegation of the European Union to Barbados, Eastern Caribbean States, the OECS, and CARICOM/CARIFORUM said the ‘CONNEXEUS 2025 Talk Series,’ which gets underway at the Cave Hill Campus of the University of the West Indies (UWI) on Saturday, will feature presentations by Nobel Prize winners from across Europe
“These pioneering individuals who have made groundbreaking contributions in fields such as chemistry, angel investing, and more, will be highlighting opportunities for collaboration between the EU and the Caribbean, to inspire greater innovation between the two regions.”
The EU said that Professor Morten Meldal, an ill headline, the session to be followed by Dr. Phaedria Marie St. Hilaire, a Dominican-born scientist and corporate leader, who will deliver the second talk in Dominica on May 12.
Professor Meldal will speak on the topic “Chemistry is Everything: A Sustainable Future with Chemistry,” while Dr. St. Hilaire will address the topic “Unlocking Caribbean Potential Through Angel and Impact Investing”.
“This talk series is the flagship initiative of the broader ‘Bridges of Innovation’ campaign, which aims to highlight the depth and potential of the EU-Caribbean partnership. From trade and travel to education and cultural exchange, the campaign will showcase how the two regions can grow together.
EU Representative, Florian Luetticken said, “CONNEXEUS 2025 signifies an exciting opportunity to bring together Europe’s most pioneering experts and the Caribbean’s brightest minds to discuss some of the most pressing challenges facing our regions.
“We know that by working together, we can make significant progress towards our shared goals and unlock new opportunities in trade, innovation, education, and cultural exchange – this series is a prime example of that collaboration in action.
“Through the overarching campaign, we aim to deepen regional engagement and highlight the many opportunities available within the EU and Caribbean markets and communities,” Luetticken added.
The EU said that several campaign initiatives will be geared towards boosting youth involvement in EU projects and programmes. It said planned activities include the launch of a Youth Sounding Board, a forum to mentor and amplify the voices of young Caribbean advocates, and the debut of a new YouTube channel spotlighting the delegation’s regional initiatives, as well as cross-cultural opportunities.
