DPP discontinued murder case against George ‘Ronnie’ Parker of Madrelle, Loubiere

George ‘Ronnie’ Parker of Madrelle, Loubiere, was in 2020 was charged with the murder of Denzel Avelyn Lenon James, of Citronier, is now a free man after the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) Sherma Dalrymple filed a discontinuous notice against him.

His lawyers, Wayne Norde and Gina Abraham-Thomas, had challenged the content of the State’s evidence against him regarding it as “hearsay,” arguing that the evidence of Inspector Chaucer James, which was taken from the accused at Loubiere, although cautioned, he was “not given sufficient time to obtain legal advice/counsel, even if cautioned.”

This, defense counsel stated, was clearly “noncompliance with the criminal law and procedure act.”

The lawyers also heavily challenged the statement of Avril Baron (the mother of the accused) regarding it as “hearsay,” saying that “it should not be treated as an adoptive confession.”

“The accused must accept or adopt the statement of his mother for it to be adopted,” the lawyers argued.

It was submitted that once the accused challenged the evidence of his mother, which was critical to the State’s case, it became fatal to them, hence they would not be able to secure a conviction.
