Doctors and nurses stage protest action at DCFH

Some doctors and nurses at the island’s main hospital the Dominica China Friendship Hospital (DCFH) in the capital City Roseau have reported “sick” over a decision by management who wants them to work at the DCFH and the Marigot hospital.

Nature Isle News (NIN) can confirm that there is no surgery and outpatient clinic with patients asked to get ‘new appointments”.

One patient at the hospital called the situation a “nightmare and very serious” while another labeled it as “chaos.”

The DCFH is now operating without a board since the lifespan of the board headed by Jennifer Astaphan has expired and a new board is yet to be appointed.

Speaking to NIN under strict conditions of anonymity, one doctor explained that they are “stretched, under pressure, and can’t work in that way.”

“They want us to work at the DCFH and simultaneously work at the Marigot Hospital, We are not superhuman, we get tired, we have a family, the hospital is without basic medical supplies and things are just not good,” the medical doctor stated.

“We can take so much, our health care system is in trouble and people are suffering, Something needs to be done and be done urgently.”

Our reporter did try to reach someone from the board to speak to on the matter but was told, “Just heard that some (doctors and nurses) did not show up to work, the Board has not been reappointed.”
