TROPICAL STORM BRET UPDATE/CLOSURE OF SCHOOLS

The Government of Dominica is continuing to monitor the progress of Tropical Storm Bret, which is projected to approach the Lesser Antilles on Thursday, June 22, 2023.
On its current track, the system is expected to pass approximately 85 miles south of
Dominica overnight on Thursday, June 22, 2023, with the earliest possible arrival of tropical
storm force winds are expected by 2:00 pm.
An increase in showers and thunderstorm activity is expected from Thursday afternoon
and a further deterioration in conditions is projected overnight with moderate to heavy
showers and thunderstorms, which could result in widespread flash flooding into Friday.
Rainfall projections are for 100 to 200 mm / 4 to 8 inches or greater in higher elevation
(mountainous areas) and deterioration in sea conditions on the East coast on Thursday,
with waves peaking to 4.0 m / 12.0 ft.
Based on these projections, the Government of Dominica has taken the following
decisions:
➢ A Tropical Storm warning is in effect for Dominica from 11:00 pm, Wednesday,
June 21, 2023.

All schools will be closed on Thursday, June 22, 2023.
➢ The online CXC CCSLC Digital Literacy exam is scheduled for 9: 30am to 10:15 am
and the CAPE Caribbean Studies exam is scheduled from 9:00 am to
10:30 am at the Portsmouth Secondary School on Thursday, June 22, 2023, will
proceed.
➢ The business day/workday on Thursday, June 22, 2023, will be suspended at
12 noon.

The Meteorological Service will continue to monitor the progress of Tropical Storm Bret
and provide the necessary updates to the general public.
Residents are advised to complete all preparations as Tropical Storm Bret approaches.
