Caribbean Public Health Agency (CARPHA) is to determine whether Dominica is affected by the Delta Variant

Health Minister Dr. Irvin McIntyre has confirmed that the Caribbean Public Health Agency (CARPHA) is to determine whether Dominica is affected by the Delta Variant, to date Dominica has over 700 hundred active COVID-19 cases.

“We did send up samples to CARPHA and they haven’t returned the results…they are the ones who have to confirm the variants,” he said.

According to the Health Minister, “coming to think of it, just how easily the disease gets transmitted, they are almost sure that it is a possibility.”

However, he said, “proper evidence is needed.”

The Caribbean Public Health Agency (CARPHA) is the new single regional public health agency for the Caribbean. It was legally established in July 2011 by an inter-government agreement signed by Caribbean Community Member States and began operation in January 2013.

The Agency rationalises public health arrangements in the Region by combining the functions of five Caribbean Regional Health Institutes (RHIs) into a single agency.
