Police make arrest in Social Media post of Indecent Acts against a young female

While seeking help and assistance from the general public on a Facebook post that has gone viral, the police have confirmed that they have arrested and charged a male individual relating to acts of indecent assault posted on social media against a young female.

In a release to the media, Head of the Criminal Investigating Department (CID) Superintendent Belgrove Charles stated that “some days ago, a video displaying very disgusting indecent act on a female minor by someone appearing to be an adult male was seen circulating on social media. The Criminal Investigating Department (CID) acted very swiftly, initiated investigations, putting all its assets into motion.”

“A few days later, a Facebook post and conversation alleging indecent acts on a young female were also seen on social media. Again, the CID began an investigation. While I am not at liberty to delve into the specifics of the investigations, I can confirm, that a male individual was arrested and charged with offences under the Sexual Offences Act against a young female (that is in relation to the young female and the allegations).”

“That individual was taken before a Roseau Magistrate on March 28, 2022, where the charges were read to him. He was remanded in custody and is expected to return to the Magistrate’s Court on Tuesday, March 29, 2022,” Superintendent Charles stated.

According to him, with reference to the video, the investigation is “active while the police continue to explore every avenue in attempts to ascertain the offender and to date, this has proven futile.”

“Let me say, that the video with the minor and the Facebook posting is not related however, anyone with information that will assist with the investigations relating to the video, should not hesitate to contact the police at numbers 266-5165, 266-5164, 266-5157 or the hotline 911 or Crime Stoppers 1-800-8477,” he said.

Superintendent Charles is assuring the public, that the Commonwealth of Dominica Police Force (CDPF) takes crimes against women and children seriously and is also working with the Welfare Department to ensure the welfare of our women and children.
