Netball action makes a comeback

The newly built hard courts at the Windsor Park Sports Stadium will be tested this weekend. The hard courts, which were built by the Government of Dominica, are located at the forecourt of the WPSS.

The courts will be put to use for the first time when the Dominica Netball Association commences its 2021 season.

The netball action will return after several years’ absence and will shoot off with a ball-o-Rama competition from 3 pm on Sunday, 6th June 2021.

A total of 12 teams have been registered and are expected to be on show on Sunday. The teams slated to participate in the ball-o-Rama competition are Promex Spartans, Melissa Poponne Skerrit Celtics, New India Celtics, Dominica State College, Wesmar 1, Wesmar 2, Double O Construction, Zebians 1, Zebians 2, Bambish Toutwels, South Side Blazers, and Rapid Security Corporation Scorpions.  

Meanwhile, Regina Walsh, who is at the helm of local netball on the island said that the netball fraternity is very elated to have a Special Envoy for netball on the island in the person of Ambassador Loreen Bannis Roberts. According to Walsh, Ambassador Roberts has netball at heart and has contributed tremendously to the development of the sport on the island.

The clubs participating in the competition this season hail from Roseau and environs, Marigot, Wesley, Grand Bay, Portsmouth, and Castle Bruce.

Prior to the ball-o-Rama competition, a number of individuals are expected to address the gathering. Some of the individuals done to deliver brief remarks are President Regina Walsh, Sports Coordinator Trevor Shillingford, and the Member of Parliament for Roseau Central Melissa Poponne Skerrit as well as sponsor representatives.

Digicel, Big Edge Financial Express and the parliamentary representative for Roseau Central Constituency, Melissa Poponne Skerrit have provided sponsorship for the season.
