Salybia MP condemns armed robbery in Kalinago Territory

Member of Parliament for the Salybia Constituency, Cozier Frederick, has condemned a robbery that took place in the Kalinago Territory on Tuesday.

One man was left dead and two on the run in the wake of the incident

“I have always been especially concerned about the well being of the Kalinago community and its residence,” Frederick said in a statement on Wednesday morning. “That’s why I am very disturbed by all forms of criminal activities within that space. My distress is especially warranted at this time because armed robbery itself is a serious crime and can permanently traumatize its victims, both physically and psychologically.”

He called on citizens to assist in bringing all perpetrators of crime to justice by assisting the authorities in all ways necessary.

“As the investigation progresses, I would like to commend the Dominica Police Force and more especially the officers posted at the Salybia Police Station for their swift action,” he stated.

Frederick also said he is in support of all actions taken by the state for ensuring that the Kalinago community, and all other areas on the island, remain “safe havens for all within our dynamic Dominica.”

Reports indicate that Davidson Alfred of Grandbay was fatally shot when he and two other men were confronted in a vehicle by police at Pointe in the Kalinago Territory.

The two others, Jarvis Alfred and Chelsea Anselm, are currently on the run and are considered armed and dangerous.
One firearm was recovered in the vehicle by law enforcement.

Police say they are wanted in the robbery of a shop owner in the Kalinago Territory and a Springfield Trading delivery truck at gunpoint.

One of the truck attendants was beaten by the men and was taken to hospital. His injuries are not life threatening.

Police have appealed to the public for assistance in locating the two men on the run.
