St. Paul’s Cricket Club and Colts maintain fine form

Convenience Plus St. Paul’s Cricket Club and Grand Bay Colts made it two wins in as many matches as they registered emphatic wins last weekend when the action continued in the 2021 Dominica Cricket Association (DCA) Trading International Group National T20 Cricket League.

In one of several matches contested over the weekend, St. Paul’s Cricket Club made light work of the Police Sports Club as they won the Benjamin Park encounter by eight wickets.

In a match reduced to 17 overs per side because of overnight and early morning rain, the lawmen took the first knock and could only reach 103 for 5 in their allotment of overs. Jason Lamothe with 39 and Kieron James with 24 runs were the leading runs getters. Cheston Dangleben aided the total with 19.

Micah Joseph with two for seven was the most successful bowler for St. Paul’s Cricket Club. Khamal Hamilton, Sebastien Brumant and Liam Sebastien all took one wicket a piece.

In reply, Casimir Benjamin stroked an unbeaten 44 as St. Paul’s Cricket Club reached 104 for two in 10.4 overs. Benjamin was well supported by Jevon Raphael and Micah Joseph with 30 and 14 runs respectively.

Grand Bay Colts was also in devastating form as they easily brushed aside Sagicor Somerset by five wickets at the Botanic Gardens on Sunday. Somerset batted first and reached 78 all out in 17. 3 overs. Only Roy Marshall with 43 which included three fours and four sixes reached double digits.

Alvinson Jolly with four for seven was the main destroyer for the Colts. In reply, Colts reached 82 for five in 12.4 overs. Delroy Liverpool hit an unbeaten 21 while Lex Magloire scored 16 and Kurtney Anselm aided the total with 14 runs.

Also at the Botanic Gardens on Sunday, Nagico Northern Stars condemned KFC Summits to their second defeat in as many matches when they won the encounter by 24 runs.

Early morning rain forced a reduction in the overs and each team batted for 15 overs. Northern Stars won the toss and took the first knock as Kevin James blasted his way to 86. In the process, he hit seven fours and as many sixes. Larenz Wiltshire 17 and Ken Joseph with 10 runs saw the score to 149 for five in 15 overs.

Savio Anselm with two for 21 was the best bowler for Summits. In reply, Summits could only score 125 for six in 15 overs. Kieron Phillip 16 not out, Andy Mathew 18, and Nicholas Bruno 10 were the leading runs scorers.

Bowling for Northern Stars, Leon St. Jean took two wickets for 33 runs and there was one wicket each for Kevin James and Jeremiah Joseph.

In another encounter, Red Rock Bramblers defeated Reuben’s Bakery Christian by 65 runs via the Duckworth Lewis system. In the encounter which was interrupted by rain, Bramblers was invited to take the first knock and reached 221 for five in 20 overs after Oswald George hit a top score of 71. George was well supported by Sherlon George with 61. Clem Telmacque chipped in with 20.

Bowling for Christian B. Ryan took three for 40 and A. Desbonne claimed two for 40. Set a victory target of 222, Christian reached 67 for three in 13 overs when the rain came shortly before 5 pm and put a halt to the proceedings. Christian needed to be 135 for three at the time when the rain to secure victory based on the Duckworth Lewis calculation.

The encounter between Go Sports Tremors and Marinor Blasters ended in a no result likewise the encounter between the Dominica Cricket Academy and Gladiators also ended in a no result. The rain had the final say in both matches.
