With the news that the Fédération Internationale de Football Association (FIFA) is making funds available to member associations to help cushion the effects of the COVID-19 pandemic, some of that funds are expected to trickle down to the football clubs affiliated to the Dominica Football Association (DFA).
In June 2020, football’s world governing body indicated that each of its 211 member associations would be entitled to a “basic solidarity grant” of US$1 million each as well as US$500 000 which will be invested in women’s football.
President of the DFA, Glen Etienne publicly announced that each club will benefit from the FIFA grant.
Etienne said that although the DFA has not yet received the funds from FIFA, his association would be in a position to make the funds available to all clubs as early as next week.
According to Etienne, clubs have been challenged with the issue of transportation to games and the money will go a long way in ensuring that clubs function properly. He also indicated that the clubs could use the funds to procure equipment as well as medical supplies.
However, there will be conditions to receiving the funds and the clubs must show how the funds given, have been spent before more funds are made available. This, he said, would mean that the clubs would enter into some contractual arrangements with the DFA.
Hey Glen my friend, try your best to prevent Skerit from getting hold of this money.
You know this man’s appetite when comes to money.
Guard this money like your life depends on it.
