A Tropical Storm Warning was issued for Dominica, by The Government of Dominica.
In this case, a Tropical Storm Warning means that tropical storm conditions are
expected within the warning area, generally within 24 hours.
At 5 am, the center of Tropical Storm Bret was located near latitude 13.7 north,
longitude 56.6 west or about 335 miles southeast
of Dominica.
Bret is moving towards the west near 16 mph, with a minimum central pressure of 996
millibars.
On the forecast track, the center of the system is projected to move across the
Windward Islands, near St. Lucia and Martinique tonight.
Maximum sustained winds are near 70 mph with higher gusts, extending outward up to
115 miles from the centre.
The centre is expected to pass about 92 miles south of Dominica tonight, as a tropical
storm.

The estimated arrival of the earliest tropical storm force winds is from this afternoon.
Impacts are expected across Dominica, mainly tonight into Friday.
EXPECTED CONDITIONS:
● An increase in wind speeds today becoming sustained tropical storm force
tonight (39 to 73 mph) with possible gales to hurricane force;
● An increase in showers and thunderstorm activity from this afternoon. An
increase in intensity tonight, with 100 to 200 mm/ 4 to 8 inches of rainfall or
greater in higher elevation projected;
● Deterioration in sea conditions on the east coast today, with swells up to 4.0 m /
12.0 ft.
EXPECTED IMPACTS:
● Rivers, streams, gutters, and ravines will overflow their banks and flood
surrounding areas by tonight;
● Landslides and rock falls from overhanging cliffs and hillsides;
● Loose objects can become missiles;
● People living near the coast will be impacted;
● Some trees and power lines can be downed.
Residents should continue to monitor the progress of Tropical Storm Bret and activate
Hurricane season plans to protect life, property, and livelihood.
