Dominican-born U.S based doctor Dale Dangleben opens art gallery in Harrisburg Pennsylvania

By Matt Peltier Jr.

History was created last weekend when a Dominican-born U.S based doctor twined up with a U.S artist to create the first art gallery of its kind in Harrisburg Pennsylvania. Dr. Dale Dangleben is known for his position with the Holy Spirit Medical Center as a Trauma medical director and when he isn’t providing health care Dr. Dangleben writes and has published over 15 books in recent times.

He also loves art, whilst claiming that his “artistic abilities are unlimited.”

“This is a true passion, not a hobby because; to me, this is rotted in education. It’s rooted in history and it’s rooted in an understanding of self,” he said.

His business partner Michelle Green was born and raised in Harrisburg, an artist, and teacher who has also worked in other art galleries in Harrisburg and Philadelphia bringing all her experience together to create Nyeusi Gallery. It showcases global art from Ghana, Haiti, and Dominica, much of which Dr. Dangleben has collected.

The gallery also includes images of historic, African American, and African activists and philosophers and as well as other Black artifacts. Dr.Dangleben says that he hopes that people will “reflect on the history of the art and possibly recognize ties to their own history and ancestry.”

Dr. Dangleben and Green disclosed that they are proud to have opened what they believe is “the first gallery dedicated to African in the city of Harrisburg”. They hope that Nyeusi will encourage youth and adults to appreciate and explore art and Black history for themselves.
