Man on Burglary charge vows to commit suicide while on remand

Al Cuffy who is also known as “Ian Pascal” of La Plaine has been arrested and charged for the burglary of R’s Boutique on 23 Great Marlborough Street Roseau on July 3, 2022.

He was not required to enter a plea since the matter is of an indictable nature and must be tried by a Judge and jury at the High Court.

According to court documents, Al Cuffy, who is also known as “Ian Pascal” entered as a trespasser in R’s Boutique and stole therein several shoes, 57 panties, a laptop, and cash all to the total value of EC$1,450.60 the property of Reginald Younis.

The prosecution did not object to bail requesting that bail be granted to a proper surety. Magistrate Michael told the defendant that he needed a property surety to be granted bail and since he does not have one, he has “no alternative but to remand him at the Stock Farm Prison.”

The accused then told the court, that he had a medical condition and, that, remanding him in prison was not good for his health. He was then told by the Magistrate, that recently, he was granted bail by the court on “medical grounds” and now he is back before the court.

“Once I go up there on remand, I am committing suicide,” the accused stated. He has since been remanded at the Stock Farm Prison. His matter is set for trial on October 20, 2022.
