Two vie for control of local cricket

When the Dominica Cricket Association (DAC) convenes a Special General Meeting, several executive positions are expected to be filled today. According to sources close to the DCA, the election of officers is the only matter on the agenda.

The Special General Meeting became necessary after the affiliates opposed the idea of the elections when the Annual General Meeting was held a few days ago. The affiliates contended that the nomination process was not in accordance with the association’s constitution, thereby forcing the cricketing body to shelve that agenda item and reopen nominations.

At today’s meeting, a new president will be elected to govern cricket affairs for the next two years. Glen Joseph, who served two consecutive terms, will not contest the elections. This has paved the way for incumbent 1st Vice President Clement Marcellin and former 1st Vice President Kevin James to vie for the top spot.

Former national cricketer Jamie Jno Baptiste will be elected by acclamation since he has no opponent. Additionally, Liam Sebastien and Daina Matthew will also be elected by acclamation in the posts of 2nd vice president and secretary respectively. Kimara Hurtault, who completed the unexpired term of Augustine Pascal as the public relations officer during the life of the last executive, will retain that post since she was the only nominee.

The post of treasurer will be contested by incumbent Jesse Bardouille and George Maxwell, while Kurt Samuel and David Johnson will be vying for the post of assistant secretary/ treasurer.

Delvin Esprit, Clement Marcellin, Anthony Scotland, and Martin Matthew will look to find favor with the affiliates to secure one of the two spots available.

The meeting is scheduled for 5 pm at the Windsor Park Sports Stadium.

Both Marcellin and James have pledged to develop cricket at the grassroots level, improve club structure and widen the pool of umpires if elected.
