Retired Police Officer turned Politician warns of “possible chaos because of lack of justice”

In Dominica, former high-ranking Police officer, Nicholas George, has in a recent statement warned that there could be “chaos in Dominica” because of an alleged lack of justice in the country.

George, who is currently a part of the opposition United Workers Party, (UWP) is of the view that the police are neglecting their job that includes helping ensure that there, is justice in Dominica.

He alleges that they are carrying out a political mandate for the current Dominica Labour Party (DLP) of Prime Minister Roosevelt Skerrit.

George in his statement gave some advice to the Acting Police Chief Lincoln Corbette, apparently aimed at what he considers an approach that can defuse what the former police official predicts could be unrest in Dominica.

“Now is the time to make an independent assessment of the political heat that is in Dominica…don’t allow it to get in the red, it is dangerous, they are already ruling. If you allow it to get red on the thermometer it will be chaos in the country,” he said.

“Advice the Prime Minister that the direction that he is going is not correct and leave him to make a decision and make sure that you have documentary evidence that you have so advised the Prime Minister, now is the time to do that.”

He says he is concerned because people starved of justice may decide to seek that justice themselves, and the police could move to suppress angry people.

“This denial of the citizenry of justice in Dominica through the institutions set up to bring justice to the citizenry will result in the citizenry taking their justice, they will take their justice, they will decide and define their justice,” he said.

According to him, when that is done, they will come into direct confrontation with the laws in Dominica and the people enforcing the law.

“It is in the view and or the minds of the Chief of Police that he has sufficient police officers, arms, and ammunition to suppress angry people, and therefore, the political directorate of Roosevelt Skerrit is seemly dependent on that force.”

Nicholas Georges says he was made aware since making that statement that a vanload of police officers went to his house at Colihaut.

According to George, he was not at home at the time.

Nature Isle News (NIN) attempted to get a comment from the police on the matter but was unsuccessful.

George is a former Superintendent of Police and former Deputy Chief of Police.

He is currently a politician and was an election Candidate for the United Workers Party.
